I saw someone dissecting Mike Shanahan’s draft record and thought that it was a fantastic idea to do with Buddy. I did not really know what to expect because I had heard nothing about his draft record here so I assumed it was either bad or mediocre. I really have not heard anything and looked to his numbers at San Diego.
While he was not the GM at San Diego he was, as Wikipedia puts it, “Nix’s job with the Chargers was to oversee both pro and college scouting and to be one of the main decision makers in each NFL Draft.” This is what I found, and personally based on his record, I have faith that he made the right picks at the right time. I evaluated his top thirty picks over course of the 2000-2009 seasons.
I also compiled a position breakdown as well. This is where I believe that Nix shows his true colors. The fact that he rarely misses on DBs makes me confident in the 3 picks he used on the back four. I love the fact that he is able to pick out Quarterbacks who are able to succeed in the league; this eases the pain that comes with not having the QB of the future on our roster in 2011. Let me know what you think of his job so far at Buffalo in the comments section.
