The Bills have selected LSU linebacker Kelvin Sheppard with the 68th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.
Sheppard projects as an inside linebacker at the NFL level. He was highly productive at LSU, starting 25 games with over 200 tackles over the past two seasons. Sheppard’s known for his strong instincts and tackling ability.
He is not a great one-on-one cover guy, so he might be a 1st-and-2nd down guy in the NFL. That’d be fine if he can help plug up the Bills’ hideous run defense.
Bottom line: I like this pick. He’s an athlete and he was productive in the brutal SEC. Not to mention linebacker is a huge position of need in Buffalo. If his instincts are as good as advertised and he’s not getting constantly caught out of position like every other Bills linebacker, he will see plenty of playing time in Buffalo.
