In what really can’t be considered a surprise, the Bills were once again not rewarded any primetime games in 2011. The Bills will play 13 of their 16 games at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. One game will be on a Saturday (Christmas Eve), and the Bills will play one 4:15 p.m. contest on the West Coast at San Diego December 11. Buffalo’s matchup in Toronto with Washington is a 4:05 start.
That’s really just as well, as the Bills have had awful luck in prime time in recent seasons. The Bills most recent night contest was a 19-13 loss to the Jets in Toronto in 2009. Buffalo also opened that season with a brutal 25-24 Monday Night Football defeat to New England.
The Bills played one night game in 2008, a horrifying 29-27 loss to the Browns on Monday Night Football that was infamous for Trent Edwards completely imploding and refusing to throw the ball down the field.
The season before that, the Bills lost a heartbreaking 25-24 Monday Night contest to the Cowboys in which the Bills blew a late lead, didn’t recover an onside kick, and watched Nick Folk nail a 53-yard field goal for the win. Buffalo was also blown out 56-10 by the Patriots on Sunday Night Football later that season.
Yeah…I’m happy with afternoon contests for now.
