To all of those that are still convinced that former QB Trent Edwards is a starting-caliber guy that we gave up on prematurely, I’m sure you were all excited when Edwards was presented with a golden opportunity to prove himself this afternoon.
Heading into today, the Jags were facing a must-win situation against Houston. If they won and the Colts lost, they would make the playoffs. Unfortunately for them, their starting QB David Garrard was placed on IR earlier this week, putting the team’s fading playoff hopes in the hands of the former Stanford signal caller. The Texans have one of the league’s worst (if not most) pathetic pass defenses. Edwards’ chance at redemption and rubbing it in the face of the Bills’ brass was there for the taking.
Edwards responded by going 12/25 for 142 yards, adding a TD and an interception. The Jags got beat 34-17. To add perspective, Donovan McNabb put up 426 yards and a TD against the Texans D. This is the secondary that batted a Hail Mary pass right into the hands of WR Mike Thomas in the first meeting this season between these two teams. Speaking of which, Garrard threw for 342 yards and 2 TDs in that game.
