Stupar the Lone Survivor

After learning that Shawn Nelson will miss the first four games of the regular season for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, coach Chan Gailey revealed to Bills’ fans that Derek Schouman was hurt against the Colts and would be out 3-6 weeks. The latest out of Bills’ camp is that backup TE Michael Matthews had to leave the practice field with an undisclosed injury, leaving Jonathan Stupar as the only healthy TE on the roster.

Matthews was brought in as a player familiar with Chan Gailey’s offense, having been recruited by Gailey to play for Georgia Tech in college. Matthews has just 8 career receptions in four seasons with the Giants, Patriots and Lions. His real value is as a run-blocker with his big 6’4″ 270-pound frame.

Gailey was, as he tends to typically be, sketchy on the details. “They’ll tell me later on after they’ve looked at him,” Gailey told the media. “They’re going to do some more tests tomorrow morning. I don’t know about that one.” Thanks, coach.

Last I saw, Jay Riemersma was running for congress in Pennsylvania and Pete Metzelaars was locked in as the Colts’ offensive line coach. I’m not yet desperate enough to want Robert Royal back…has anyone seen Keith McKeller lately?
