Jim Kelly, arguably the greatest quarterback in Bills history, might as well have just come out and said it. Since he left, no quarterback for the Bills has been been worth a damn.
Since Jim Kelly retired from the league, the Buffalo Bills have started nine different QBs. As he told the USA Today, the Bills struggles will continue until there is a franchise guy under center.
“You look for a guy with good character, good leadership ability and good arm strength — and a guy who doesn’t come from California,” Kelly said, according to the report.
Atop his list? Tim Tebow, the highly touted Heisman winner trying to lead the Florida Gators to their second consecutive BCS Championship. Whether the Bills think he is the right man for the job, or whether they will even have a crack at him in the draft are entirely different questions.
On the subject of Trent Edwards Kelly had the following to say: “I like Trent personally. He works hard. But he’s had three years. It’s time to find somebody who is the future of the Buffalo Bills. If I’m the owner, that’s what I’m thinking.”
I think most Bills fans would agree.
