The Bills have the bye this week – as do the Jets – but that doesn’t mean it’s an unimportant week in the AFC East.
While the Bills current playoff picture is admittedly grim, a birth isn’t completely out of the question just yet. Currently the Patriots sit atop the division with a 5-2 record and are set to square off today against the 3-4 Miami Dolphins. With Buffalo at 3-5 a Pats loss will leave the Bills only two games of first place. After this year’s first-half performance that’s really about all we could have asked for.
At this stage the Bills are probably out of a wild-card position with the AFC North being so strong and teams like Houston and San Diego looking relatively solid in the South and West respectively. Realistically, Bills fans have to be pulling for the AFC East to look like California’s budget by year’s end in the hope that somehow Buffalo can turn it around and sneak out a 9-7 division championship.
Yeah, I know, its not a good position to be in. And it’s especially bad when we have to root for the Dolphins. Just the thought of it actually makes me a little nauseous.
