Ryan Fitzpatrick will get a chance to come into this week’s game against the Panthers with some advance warning. Dick Jauron has sidelined QB Trent Edwards who sustained a concussion against the Jets in last week’s overtime win. Fitzpatrick, who was less than stellar last week, will have to have better accuracy while trying to manage the game. We can also expect Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson to feature prominently in the ground attack.
On the defensive side of the ball, both Donte Whitner and Bryan Scott, have also been scratched for this week. Whitner, who came back from thumb surgery to start against the Jets, sustained an ankle injury before the game’s conclusion. Scott, who has also been out the last three games with a high ankle injury, finally practiced this week but on a limited basis. He will not start on Sunday.
This tandem is considered Buffalo’s most physical (and most talented) at the safety possession. Not having both is certainly a blow to stopping the run and it looks like the Bills will have to continue their woes in this column for at least another week. After a week in which the Bills allowed essentially two backs to have hundred-yard games, the fact that they will square off against an athlete like DeAngelo Williams is downright scary.
