Final Bills Draft Notes

AUTHOR: | IN: Uncategorized | COMMENTS: None Yet

With the seventh round pick, 220th overall, the Buffalo Bills selected DB Ellis Lankster, from West Virginia. Lankster is another player that is going to fill a utility role nicely with the Bills.  Slotted as a corner back. the Bills now have a lot of young depth at this position, which is the norm for them.  They now have several years of carry over young rookie/sophomore talent at this position, one they have had success using players like this. He can also fill it at Safety, giving the Bills some options. Overall there is not a questionable pick in this [...]

Bills use 183 on CB

AUTHOR: | IN: Uncategorized | COMMENTS: None Yet

With the 183rd  pick the Bills select Cary Harris from USC. The Bills are quickly upgrading from the B – I gave them yesterday.  The Bills are showing this year that they can add depth and impact players given a good draft year.  With several horrible drafts and equally horrible seasons, this might be the draft that turns things around in Buffalo. This draft is definitely going to set the modern standard of drafts at Ralph Wilson stadium, and now maybe we can lose the stigma that this team cannot be good because of past mistakes by key administrators. His [...]

Bills select a safety

AUTHOR: | IN: Uncategorized | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Buffalo Bills use their fifth round pick to select Nic Harris, S from Oklahoma. Harris is a typical safety in size and play.  Will really help to round out a Bills defense. The Bills continue to select players that are not only going to impact the opening day roster, but that are going to help them get better.  Don’t get the illusion that they are having the perfect draft and are going to be something special this year, but the Bills have surprised before. In what continues to be possibly the best Bills draft in about as many years [...]

Bills add TE at pick #121

AUTHOR: | IN: Uncategorized | COMMENTS: None Yet

With the 121st overall pick in this years draft, the Bills selected TE Shawn Nelson from Southern Mississippi. A surprise find in the fourth round, Shawn Nelson was pegged as one of the better tight ends in the draft.  Bills have filled one of their remaining needs with a quality player.  Nelson may not see a lot of touches with Evans and Owens owning the offensive show this year, and needs to work on his blocking to help the wideouts, but is a great edition to the team. He is no Pettigrew, but the Bills have definitely done well if [...]

Bills finish day one of the draft…

AUTHOR: | IN: Uncategorized | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

I would have to give the Bills a B- on day one of the draft. Pick Player Pos Ht Wt College Round 1, Pick 11 (11) Aaron Maybin DE 6’4″ 249 Penn State Pick Analysis:The Bills take the dynamic pass-rushing specialist from Penn State. Though Maybin left State College, Pa., as a one-year starter, he racked up 12 sacks in his final season and dazzled scouts with his exceptional first-step quickness. For a team in desperate need of a pass rush, Maybin appears to be the ideal fit. Round 1, Pick 28 (28) (From Panthers through Eagles) Eric Wood C [...]

Bills add late second rounder to get OL

AUTHOR: | IN: Uncategorized | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Bills traded to get a second pick in the second round of the draft, selecting OL Andy Levitre from Oregon State with the 51st overall pick in the 2009 draft. By picking Andy Levitre, it appears the Bills are using the elimination of Jason Peters on the O-line as a reason to completely re-think how that line will operate in the 2009-2010 season. The Bills now have a little bit of versatility leading away from the draft, it will just remain how they choose to use it.

Bills select corner back at 42

AUTHOR: | IN: Uncategorized | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Buffalo Bills selected cornerback Jairus Byrd from Oregon. The way this pick looks to me is that the Bills are going to try and stay young at the corner back position, which means we could see Terrence McGee going to the way of the free agent market next week. So far the Bills selections have raised eyebrows and question marks, but they haven’t really reached for a player.  The only really questionable pick would be the CB at 42…given the need at so many other positions on this team.

Bills Select center at 28

AUTHOR: | IN: Uncategorized | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Buffalo Bills used the 28th overall pick in this years draft to select Eric Wood, C, from Lousiville. An interesting pick given the teams other needs.  Wood has the ability to play offensive guard and tackle – and the ability to be an iron man. While going small with the defensive pick in Maybin, the Bills have added some size and weight with this selection – as Wood is listed as 6’4″ and weighs in at 310. As the ability to lead and influence the line – could be the voice of the offensive line, something the Bills really [...]
