Why Oakland won’t win – and why the Bills will.

Oakland looks like a team of promising young upstarts – a team standing outside, just awaiting destiny to deal them the right cards.  Only the owner keeps holding aces in his sleeves.

As Al Davis prepares to fire another coach – today, at halftime of the Oakland Raiders‘ game Sunday against the Bills, or whenever his lawyers tell him he’s suitably positioned to try to withhold the money he contractually owes – the loyal denizens of Raider Nation are being asked to believe, as always, that this is about an owner’s obsession with victory.

Oakland has less history in the past five years than ever – and they will never get the ball rolling as long as Al Davis has a revolving door installed on the head coaches office.  Players want to win, there is no denying it, they are the best at what they do, and they get paid very well to do it; but how can players at the heart of Raider’s nation continue to strive for excellence when the owner thrives on meritocracy.  I think the Oakland franchise is right now, a great example of these powerfully rich owners having too much power over the football operations of their teams.

This front office turmoil is going to spill over onto the field  It is not going to matter that last week.  The Raiders offense is a crap shoot going into the game with Buffalo, they are almost at the bottom of the league in passing yards:

Through two games, the Raiders look to be a team in trouble if JaMarcus Russell must control the game through the air.

If the Bills can contain the rush game against Oakland like they did the Jags (week one they had 137 yeards on the ground, Buffalo held them to 98), this game is Buffalo’s no problem, and if the special teams for the Bills run full throttle like they did week 1, this game could easily reach blowout categories.  The Bills are still young, and while the defense is running on supercharged….they still are not perfect, considering their youth I think we can see a 27-17 game, if the special teams are on fire again, the Bills could easily add another touchdown.
