UB Bulls trying to find QB of tomorrow.

With the first game in Toronto hours away (albeit an exhibition game), I figured I would take this opportunity to do a spot on the UB Bulls football team. I think its great this year they are marketing the season as “Blue Collar Football”, that slogan seemed to work in the late 90s early 2000s for the Sabres (Hardest Working Team in Hockey).

The reason I would like to highlight the Bulls football team because if the Bills do end up leaving the area, Buffalo is a football town, and fans will have to find another outlet. The current UB Bulls stadium has room for 31,000 and they have a strong and growing season ticket base already. Under Head Coach Turner Gill the program has seen definite improvements and they hope to make a splash in the Mid-American Conference.

The Bulls do have some adversity to face this season. Current Quarterback Drew WIlly is a senior, and is the entrenched starter. The Bulls are taking the right track and are looking at four Freshman to tote the clipboard this season, Cory Jorgensen (red-shirted Freshman), Zach Maynard (true freshman), and Jerry Davis (true freshman). If the season started today, a junior end up taking the snaps under center, Naaman Roosevelt, who played quarterback locally at St. Joe’s. A fourth candidate has emerged in redshirt Freshman Ed Young, but staffing moves has him developing at the wide receiver position.

Any way you look at it, the Bulls have options. Personally, I think they need to start grooming a freshman, that way they have four solid years of the same guy under center. If they opt to go with the journeymen (Roosevelt) they still need to get the freshman some reps because he [Roosevelt] has a limited amount of time left.

Coach Gill has said that a decision will be made by next week. Heres a fan-sided toast to the Bulls, hopefully they can continue to grow and develop into the community’s team if they find themselves the only big football team in Buffalo.
