Things Don’t Look Good For Edwards
|
Ok, I’m usually a fairly optimistic guy and one heck of a Trent Edwards supporter, but even I think we are throwing him into a game he can’t possibly win. I know the coaching staff has decided to go with Edwards because he gives the Bills the best chance of winning, but I’m having my doubts this week. It’s usually a bad idea to throw a rookie into the starting lineup for a road game but to throw him into a game against a team that just lost their defensive leader is a BAD idea. This Washington Redskins team is going to come out fired up and full of emotion and that doesn’t even begin to describe how the fans will react. I mean this is a Redskins defense that is highly aggressive, ranked 13th in the NFL in sacks and giving up less than 20 points per game(and thats with the Patriots game). Does this seem like a defense you want to put a rookie quarterback who’s thrown 5 times as many interceptions as touchdowns with a QB rating under 70. Not to me it doesn’t. If it were up to me, I’d go with J.P. Losman and his NFL starting experience despite his recent struggles. |
Will Trent still be smiling after Sunday? |

Your point about the decision to start Edwards being worse because of Skins having lost their leader is very lame. For one thing, Taylor passed away after the decison to start Edwards was announced. For another thing, Losman has been playing terribly and experience isn’t helping him much. He had bad games on the road against the Dolphins and Jags, so there’s no reason to expect he wouldn’t ahve a bad game on the road against the Skins. And they’d be every bit as inspired over the loss of Taylor if JP was playing as well. That will be what it is regardless of the Bills QB. Simply put, it’s unlikely that Edwards will sot the Bills a win that JP would have provided. But the playing experience he gains might help the following week. We need to learn more about Edwards in the final 5 weeks to help decide what to do in the draft and free agency. Also, having Edwards play more games should help the coaches point out what he needs to correct during the off season and next training camp. Playing JP would be simply treading water. There’s no way JP is the QB next year. He’s jsut shown way too many weaknesses in his game. If he’s ever a quality QB in the NFL it will be a few years down the road still (if it ever hapens at all). Can’t wait any longer. Gotta move on.
