Interview with WR Johnny Quinn

First off, I would like to start this by saying that as much as I love the Buffalo Bills and the NFL, college football will always be number one for me. I don’t know what it is but football on Saturdays is much more exciting than on Sundays. From the big time rivalries to the meaningless December bowl games, I’m hooked. Especially when it comes to finding the NFL stars of tomorrow. There’s nothing I look forward to more come fall then scouring the collegiate ranks for players I think have the ability to be special. Well one of those players I noticed a few year back was WR Johnny Quinn from North Texas. This was a guy with track star speed, soft hands, who was tough as nails, but most importantly, this was a guy who was a team player. This guy never complained that he was a promising WR on a team with back to back NCAA rushing leaders. Instead he went out there and threw block after block and played his heart out on special teams. Johnny Quinn was a player I was rooting for. So come draft day I thought of Quinn as one of my ultimate sleepers and expected to see his name called in the latter rounds. Needless to say, when it didn’t happen, I was surprised. Did teams not value hustle anymore? However, very soon after I was thrilled to notice Johnny Quinn had been signed by Buffalo. He’s now fighting for a spot on a wide open WR corps and was able to take some time out to answer a few of my questions.

quinn.jpgKevin David: What was your most memorable moment from your college football career?

Johnny Quinn: Being a part of three conference championships. Anytime you can share success with you’re teammates, it’s an incredible moment.

Kevin David: Were you optimistic about your draft chances and do you think playing for a small school like North Texas helped or hurt your draft stock?

Johnny Quinn: North Texas has been a blessing for me. I was taught early in my career at UNT if I wanted to see the field I must play special teams. I played special teams all four years in college and it looks as though if I want to have a chance to make the roster, my ability to contribute on special teams will be a huge deciding factor.

Kevin David: Describe your draft day experience?

Johnny Quinn: Mixed emotions. Any competitor feels as though they deserve to be drafted, but getting the call from Buffalo shortly after the draft was certainly worth the wait.

Kevin David: What ultimately led you to signing with Buffalo as an UDFA?

Johnny Quinn: Buffalo gave me an opportunity as the draft concluded and I didn’t want to miss it.

Kevin David: Describe what your first mini camp was like? Did you feel that being an UDFA from a smaller school put you at a disadvantage?

Johnny Quinn: There was a lot of learning. It was good the veteran players were there so we could watch and learn how everything is done the correct way.

Kevin David: What would you feel are your biggest strengths and which areas of your game do you feel need improvement?

Johnny Quinn: Playing at North Texas made me aware of how important special teams are and my ability to play on all special teams is an excellent strength. I need to continue to get reps against top notch competition to improve my game.

Kevin David: Now on a more personal note, what are some other things you enjoy doing when not playing football?

Johnny Quinn: I enjoy reading. Mostly Christian inspirational, but I have been reading a lot of financial IQ books lately. The beauty of compounding interest is simply amazing. I also play a lot of video games, mainly Halo.

Kevin David: Wrapping up this interview I just need to ask, what are your goals for the upcoming season?

Johnny Quinn: To be wearing a Buffalo Bills uniform on September 9th, 2007.

I hope so too. I would like to thank Johnny Quinn for taking the time to answer my questions and give us Bills fans a little insight on one of our most intriguing and talented UDFAs.

Awesome interview, fellas! I want to personally thank Johnny Quinn on behalf of FSB for taking the time to do this interview. As far as I'm concerned you have the work ethic and talent to have a Don Beebe presence for the Bills! Good luck, Johnny.
